General Board / KeyStore, v8 and named vs. floating licenses

Good day everyone,

I have a question regarding v8 of EA, the KeyStore and how it handles floating vs. named licenses.

Here is the scenario, I have 6 named licenses and 20 floating. We will be implementing the TCP/IP option of the KeyStore after the first of the year, (we're currently having everyone access a file on a shared folder.) unfortunately I'm not understanding (from the SSKeyStoreUG.pdf document how I address both the named and floating licenses. Do I add all of them into the Keystore manager and it figures out who gets a named and who gets a floating or do I keep them separate and run two different license managers?  :-/

if anyone has any clarification on this and is willing to share, i would really appreciate it.

Bugs and Issues / "Not a valid bookmark" error in EA v9.3

I have a user who is recieving an error message in Enterprise Architect.

The error is:

Code: [Select]

:DAO.Database [3159]
Not a valid bookmark.He is running version 9.3 on a Windows 7 laptop.

I'm gathering more information and will add it here once I get it. I'm not sure if it's when he is launching EA or trying to open a project.

I'm leaning toward something we are doing but not really sure. I'm working with support now to try and figure it out.

We are using v8.0 build 856 - Unicode.

(NOTE: This is the info I sent to Support but thought I'd see if anyone here has experienced this.)

            I have what we think is a bug in v8.0 but I’m not really sure. I’m going to try and describe it the best way I can and I’ll include a screen capture.

            What’s happening is when a user is working with classes, the title of the class won’t display the title entered in by the user. The user is working in the Logical Diagram “Package 1” which they created and has 3 classes in there. For example, if the user enters in the title of say Bob from the existing title, the class doesn’t reflect this until one of two things. One, if there is multiple classes in the diagram and they change another one however this only happens on certain ones, not all of them do it. Two, if they save the project, close and re-open EA they reflect the updated info.  

            What’s really strange is its inconsistent, there have been times where it’s worked just fine but most of the time it doesn’t. The user is working with a local .eap file, no repository or versioning that we have set up. I’m wondering if maybe it’s “locking” the items in some way until it’s saved. What brings me to this is that we’ve also seen it not allow the user to save and the only way is to exit the application or it won’t allow them to add any more classes or other objects until it’s saved.   :-?

            The items (classes in this case) will immediately reflect the changes in the Project Browser when the diagram doesn’t.

            According to another user v7.5 doesn’t do this. It will allow you to change the names over and over and continually reflect the new change.

            It’s kind of hard to explain without actually seeing it and I do apologize. I’ve been combing through the list of changes on the website but can’t seem to find anything that is related to this.

I never knew that, that helps alot.

The only problem I have is that I can't even get into the project itself. I try to connect to the repository and when it tries to open the project, it crashes EA so I'm unable to export the project locally to repair it.

We do have a backup of it so I may just import it and overwrite the exiting one.

I'll be honest in saying I'm not sure what you are referring to, I'm going to guess it has something to do with Microsoft Access. Would you be kind enough to expand on this?

Oh and yes, we do have a backup.

Bugs and Issues / EA Crashing when attempting to connect to reposito

When we attempt to connect to the repository, EA will try to for about 30-40 seconds then crash. No errors are reported. I believe there is some corruption in the repository but to run the Project Intagrity Check, you have to actually be in the project. This poses a problem for us as we can't even get this far. We are using v7.5.849, has anyone experienced this issue before and if so, how did you resolve it? This has completely shut us down as it's our primary repository.

UPDATE:
Well I found the section in the help file that explains how to fix it, (Repair a Project) the problem is that I can't even get into the project to do any of the steps. Anyone have any ideas?

Well, we have found a temporary work around for this. During the setup of the repository, instead of choosing the WAN optimizer in the "Connection Name & Type" window, we make sure there is only the name of the repository/database we are trying to connect to and have the Encrypt Connection String checked.

We do not select either of the options, "Lazy Load" or "Use WAN Optimization". This lets us connect.

I was wondering if you had found a solution for this as we are experiencing the same thing when we try to open a project.
