Suggestions and Requests / Actor in use case diagrams
« on: May 13, 2008, 12:12:35 am »
Hi, the actor in use case diagrams cannot be displayed as a block when its
instantiated, only when its referenced. Can this be changed please? We use it a lot since we mostly model systems.

Also, I would like to know what the purpose of the "Role" property of an actor is. If we already have a stereotype for an actor, why do we need a role? Shouldn't the stereotype indicate what type/role of actor it is?

Thanks

General Board / Message stereotypes
« on: May 28, 2008, 11:54:30 pm »
Hi, I am using the Corporate version of EA. The Message stereotypes seems to be inherited from the Object base class. If I look at the Stereotypes menu I notice the stereotypes defined for type "Message" aren't even in the dropdown list for the message properties stereotypes, but those that are defined for the object group are in the dropdown.

Question is: I want to define custom stereotypes for Message, and remove the redundant types already defined, without affecting the object stereotypes that Message stereotypes seem to inherit from.
Can this be done, and how?      :)

Bugs and Issues / Diagram note on diagrams

Hi, is there anyway to have the diagram note appear automatically in to top left corner of a diagram without having to drag and drop it there every time?

Uml Process / alternate flows vs exends use cases
« on: May 09, 2008, 06:57:18 pm »
Hi, when should one use alternate flows on a base use case, and when should you use extends use cases that extend from the base use case?
My example is an integration flow which has a normal (success) path, and then multiple alternate flows/exceptions where an error can occur.

Uml Process / error/exceptions in use cases
« on: May 12, 2008, 08:08:13 pm »
Hi, how do you model errors/exceptions in use cases? Do you model them as separate use cases that extends a base use case, or alternative flows on the same use case in EA?

As a sidenote, I noticed the UML spec has no reference to alternative flows, so why does EA have it?

Uml Process / Re: Use case diagram basic and alternate flows for
« on: May 12, 2008, 08:00:18 pm »
Alternatively one can have multiple use cases "inheriting" from the base use case using the <<extends>> relationship. Would this make more sense? Then one would have seperate sequence diagrams for each use case. Any ideas?

Uml Process / Use case diagram basic and alternate flows for EAI
« on: May 09, 2008, 04:40:42 pm »
Hi, I am attempting an EAI use case diagram.
My question is how to model basic and alternative flows if I have a message sent from system A, to EAI, to system B or C. System A publishes a message, and based on its content EAI routes to either B or C.
2 questions:
1. Would this be modelled as two seperate basic paths?
2. Would exceptions be modelled as alternate flows?

Thanks  ;D

Hi, I would like to know if there is a template/macro or some way of automatically creating a predefined structure of packages with diagrams. Reason is we create the same structure for different projects, and this would save quite a bit of time, since we have a lot of packages and diagrams to model!

Thanks
